Edgar A. Squires was born August 30, 1842 in Rome, New York. This photo, modified from a 2" x 3" daguerreotype, shows him when he had enlisted in the Union Army for service in the Civil War. Edgar was mustered as a private in the Ohio Volunteer Army, 47th Regiment, Company 1 on June 15, 1861 at Toledo. He was injured after the Battle of Vickburg and during the sieges of Atlanta and Jackson, Mississippi, and was mustered out at Little York, Pennsylvania on August 19, 1864.
