Edgar A. Squires was born August 30, 1842 in Rome, New York. This photo, modified from a 2" x 3" daguerreotype, shows him when he had enlisted in the Union Army for service in the Civil War. Edgar was mustered as a private in the Ohio Volunteer Army, 47th Regiment, Company 1 on June 15, 1861 at Toledo. One source suggests that he was a drummer. He was injured after the Battle of Vickburg and during the sieges of Atlanta and Jackson, Mississippi, and was mustered out at Little York, Pennsylvania on August 19, 1864.
